Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

My favorite Mexican food place for many reasons... but I will list just a few, but most important ones here... 1. The food is excellent. The meats are always nice and tender, the rice is always just right, the salsas and spices are perfect, and the entrees are always served hot and ready. 2. The portions are outstanding. I mean, I can order a burrito here and not finish it. Considering I can finish 2 burritos from most other places, that is a big deal. Also, the tacos are loaded with meat so that the tortillas are almost always breaking. And my wife's favorite dish, the chimichangas, come in a portion so big, she usually has one for lunch while there and the other for dinner later. 3. They listen to how you want your food brought out. I don't know how many times I have gone to other places and have asked for the burrito to have no beans, or for my kid's items come out first only to have everything I said completely ignored. Here, when I ask for something a certain way, I get it. 4. The prices are incredible. Huge burritos for just over $5. Fully loaded tacos with handmade tortillas for only $1.35. And full dinners for under $10. Yeah, you really can't beat that. All in all, my favorite place in the SouthEast area of L.A. County and a place I like to come to with my family again and again.

its a whole in the wall. My dad took me and i fell in love. food is good. homemade tortillas and the meat is good. the tacos are bigger than most places. order two if your kind of hungry but if your really hungry order three. but if you order more than that you will never finish them. you need to try it for yourself to know what i mean. i gave it a 5 stars but remember everyone's taste buds are different. i take friends and they seem to like it because they keep going back.

Just like all the Yelper's said, their tacos were huge, had more than enough meat, and were delicious! These tacos are worth what you pay, which is about $1.65 per taco. It's way better than paying $1 and getting a tiny taco with hardly any meat like in most places! Children, beware! German, one of the guys who preps the food is crazy! He likes to sing loudly with no shame and chop the heck outta that meat with his butcher knife! (A little creepy I'd say! Lol. Jk!) The only complaint I have is the place is too small! U can hardly move in there and they only have 3 tables to dine in! I mean, if a restaurant is doing as well as them, why not invest in expanding your restaurant or getting a bigger location? U know what I'm saying?? But I will go back for those tacos alright!
(4)Yelpito R.
Take it from this Mexican that drives all over california and Vegas NO OTHER PLACE HAS BETTER TACOS PERIOD. Lets start with the meat bombly marinated to perfection and they load the tacos like no tomorrow, the tortillas are large and freshly made to order. The salsas are so good that u wana fill up a zip lock bag fill it up and take some home for mañana, and lets not for get the carrots!!!! They are a must have!.. this place kicks major ass
(5)Adolfo G.
Look there was a guy that said that these were going to be the best tacos in the 562 area well i had to see for my self...i was gladly surprise..love the hole in the wall late night in a rural mexican town feeling brought me back...but best lengua tacos i have had in the 562 area..
(4)F.D. R.
A 4.5 star rating since the al pastor is ok. Overall, the best location to have tacos in the Southeast. Huge tacos for $1.35. Their best meats are the asada, tripas, lengua, and carnitas. These meats are full of flavor without being over seasoned. The al pastor tacos are ok, but not great. Huge burritos (though not overfilled with rice/beans). Very good "salsa bar". Quick service. The place is small and it only three tables so it tends to fills-up quickly during the rush hours. Make sure that you do not confuse this with the Zavala Restaurant a few blocks away or other Zavala Taquerias. This is the legit spot.
(4)Curly ..
Tortillas looked hand made and the carne asada was pretty good. Tiny dining area and mediocre service are the drawbacks.
(3)Garry s.
Nothing to say here but....BEST TACOS IN THE 562 PERIOD
(5)Jorge G.
Huarache time, thats right. The best huarachesss in town, even though i wish they accepted credit/debit cards. The customer service can improve a lil bit as well. Other than that i can complain about the food.
(4)Elizabeth M.
The best prices and the tacos were DELICIOUS! They're huge too! I ordered 2 tacos and I couldn't get through the 2nd one even half way. They don't charge extra for guacamole either! The place looked a little run down, but the food and service was top notch!
(5)Alberto V.
if your hungover and in the area good place to have menudo. Also the salsa bar has a variety so take advantage of it. The tacos are very hardy and they do put meat not like other places.
(4)K H.
Had a tripa, a lengua, and a carnitas taco. The tripa was pretty good. The lengua was not bad as well; not as tender as at Tacubaya in Berkeley, but still good. Carnitas was just okay: nice and crispy, but could use a bit more fatty pieces. The tacos all had a good amount of meat, and nothing else. I added chopped onions and some of the green salsa. $1.35 each, a good deal for tacos this size.
(4)Phil P.
Love this place! Easy fwy access/parking, fast friendly service, and the food is unbelievable!!!
(5)Miguel E.
Ok, this place is very small and they could buy new tables. Other then that the food is gre out of all the dishes they serve there the huaraches are bom!!!
(4)Justin T.
Wow! Just got back from lunch and I have to say this is about as authentic as you get. Fresh tortillas, not greasy, perfectly seasoned and super fresh. Pretty darn near perfect.... It literally is a hole in the wall, and there's only 3 places to sit along the side counter, but you're not going to find a better or bigger taco for $1.35, with Coke in a bottle and fresh horchata. Try the Carne Asada taco - add some onions/cilantro, salsa verde and sprinkle some lemon juice on top. Perfection! And the restaurant is an "A" in case you were wondering. ***Also, Cash Only - so bring $10 to feed 2 people***
(5)Evee A.
I love Mexican as I am Mexican. I'm always looking for good Mexican spots to eat at. This place is the bomb! Hands down the best mexican food around. This is authentic Mexican food, not americanized whatsoever. Greasy yummyness. The menu is not huge, but as good as this is, it does not matter. The food is absolutely delicious. And the portions are huge. The tortillas are freshly made and superb! All the food is bomb. Tacos are delicious and a must. You wanna try something new, if u like quesadillas, try the Mulita. It's a quesadilla with ur choice of meat inside but made with the freshly made tortillas. Explosion in ur mouth. They have Coke in the bottle, which is the best way to have coke, and of course horchata and other fresh waters. Agua de pina (pianapple) is the bomb and i highly recommend. The place is tiny and u might miss it driving by. Not to get confused with the Zavala #2 restaurant literally like half a block away on the same street. For some reason the food just doesn't taste the same. Go to the hole in the wall one. There 3 benches back to back to sit down at. So expect to be cramped or standing. Usually just take the food to ur car and eat it there. A def. place to visit if ur in the mood for something good and tasty!
(5)Beloved C.
It's a little hole in the wall place, but absolutely some of the best carne asada tacos you can get. The tacos are really large and super cheap @ $1.30 (or so). I tried a carne asada, chicken and fish taco. The fish was not that goog, where the other two were. Just bring cash when you arrive. You can feed two people for under $10 nicely. :)
(4)Mary Ann K.
Best carne asada tacos EVER!!! If you like spicy, ask them for grilled jalapeños and put this in your taco. Don't forget the green sauce, onions, and lots of lime. It's a mixture of DELICIOUSNESS!!!!! *drools*
(5)Cryssy D.
The tacos here are to die for especially the buche tacos which are honestly the best I've ever had. They even make their own tortillas if you want. They have a great salsa bar w/salsas onions/carrots, cilantro, peppers & radshes. They stuff their tacos and burritos to the max. Two is all I need but my greedy ass always orders three so I can have one to go. There isnt much room to dine in plus there is a guy there that likes to sing really loud which could be a little annoying so I always order to go. Lastly, they really need to start accepting cards because cash only places really really show how cheap they are, otherwise. YES YES YES TO ZAVALA! Somebody pass me a corona.
(5)Edgar S.
Great carne asada. This place is basically a hole in the wall with some good ass tacos and etc. Its worth the drive and the people are real chill. Tortillas made fresh when you order your tacos. I will be going there from now on, sorry El Gavilan.
(5)Wendy D.
Best tacos ever! Hand make tortillas so good. The huarache is just as good. Everything is good won't disappoint.
(5)Rick P.
Tortas tortas tortas...& other mexican food that jst tast much much better. Dont ask why or how it is, just order tha damn 1k calories into ur wonderfully taken carebof ass n body.kudos to the chefs my body is now gaining phat cells and now am currently signing on to bally's as we speak. Well at least i can indulge in the foods just as we like to indulge in other activities(winkwink) oh shut the hell up u kno what i mean!
(5)Alan G.
Best tacos in southgate period!! Tacos are hugggeee, they do not hold back on the meat here, u get what u pay for. The burritos are amazing and the salsas make u wanna take a bucket of it home. BOTTOM LINE: HUGE GOOD TACOS. GOOD SALSA. BEST BURRITOS.
(4)Katie P.
my man ate here over the weekend...he says this is the best place to get tacos.....his dad says he always eats here when he is in the area... carne asada tacos aree huge!!! and for a cheap place, he said "i wish i could of ordered 7 of them..and the liquor store next store makes everything even out" so i guesss il be tryin this place soon and ill have to make an update asap
(5)Luis G.
they have changed a lot when they opened their food was absolutely great right amount of beans and rice on their burritos now their just flooded with beans and pilled with rice and a bit of meat. still food is good and super filling but the place is really small and usually crammed with people.
(3)Israel C.
this place is small and hot but the food is great. Its always packed with people. The burritos taste good and are huge, I've never seen them this big anywhere else. I think the burritos cost around 7 bucks they use to be cheaper. What ever you order here you'll get your money's worth.
(5)Andrew H.
Carne asada tacos are great and filling. Nothing special but hits the spot.
(4)Joey S.
Amazing tacos and burritos. After numerous visits this place still manages to never fail me. They consistently serve top grade beef and quality Mexican food.
(5)Ana B.
Best tacos around. Bring cash! No debit cards or credit cards accepted. Big Delicios Tacos. Big Delicios Burritos. I've tried a hella lot of places around town and only found dissapointment after dissapointment, I was so relieved to find this place. OMG! The lengua is perfect! You know how scarce a good taco de lengua is? Salsa (*****)
(5)Patricia M.
This Taqueria is my favorite. Everything on the menu is absolutely delicious, the rice, the beans, the tortillas the meat, the chicken, menudo to die for. They are always busy the prices have gone up but the quality is still great. For $1.50 you get a huge meaty taco with a regular size tortilla, which is hand made. The burritos are well proportioned and you can not go wrong with anything on the menu. It's closed on Wednesday's and there restaurant is located down the street. The restaurant sucks. I think the food at the Taqueria is so great because the owners and the original cooks who created the recipes work here and they have a passion for cooking which is evident in there food. They have several other Taqueria but none as great as this one. It is a Taqueria so don't expect a sit down restaurant, they have a few stools and one or two tables but the food is meant for you to enjoy somewhere else, they are extremely busy and it's always packed so take it home, to the park or eat it outside lol.
(5)Two-Ton-Tuna L.
Ahora estos son tacos no chingaderas!!! Thats right people these are the real deal tacos. I was reffered there by a co-worker and urged to go and give them a try....best advise I've ever gotten,( besides the whole jimmy hat thing of course )...but anyways, it makes you fell like you just crossed the border and are having some tacos in Tijuana. I have not tried everything on the menu but so far, the best damn asada burrito I've had in L.A, the best tacos in L.A, and I highly recommend the fish tacos that's correct best fish tacos in L.A too...( well so far )!!! It trully is a 1 stop taco shop. Another tip for my real mexicans out there, try the salsa verde, taste authentically home made, you can actually taste the tomatillo, now I didn't find it a bit spicy but it made all that up in sabor. I'ts good, I'ts good I'ts all good!!
(5)Raul F.
I try to stop your each time I'm in LA. Super meaty tacos and made fresh by the hour. You can see these guys working super hard and a tent of sweat fell on the taco and I kid you not that taco was so delicious! A must try if you're in LA area.
(5)Ivan R.
This place was a HUGE f*ing disappointment thanks to all the inflated reviews. First of all, its small as heck, so you can barely walk around or sit comfortably since the only 3 tables they have are almost stacked on top of each other. They don't take credit cards so go visit the ATM machine elsewhere before going there. FLIES. FLIES EVERYWHERE. Landing on you, your food, and the salsa bar. Oh and even if you do decided to grab anything from the salsa bar that the flies haven't landed on yet, you can't because someone will be hogging the bar and pretty much packing everything in sight to take home in baggies. The food was good though so they do get 2 stars.

The quintessential Mexican breakfast joint, Taqueria Zavala is starting to become my go to place whenever I am in the need for a good warm hearted breakfast, especially if I am nearby the area. Taqueria Zavala is located on the borderline of South Gate and Paramount. Often there can be a wait but the few times I have came, there haven't been. Parking is in a small sized joint, but if you are lucky enough, you might just find some on the street. Usually, I order their menudo, which is by far my favorite dish here. Its always a good time for menudo, not just on weekends! I have also tried their huevos con machaca(shredded beef) and I must say that I have loved it. With a bit of a spicy kick it, I am a fan of it. Upon seating, the waiter/waitress brings a complimentary bowl of chips with salsa, which can be a bit spicy too. Their tortillas are handmade and warm to the feel. By far, I can say their orange juice is some of the freshest I have ever imbibed-freshly squeezed. That is a big deal to me! Staff is always nice and eager to answer any questions you might have. They do have flat screen TV's for your viewing pleasure. Overall, I will continue to give my dollars and my customer-ship! They have made a fan out of me and will be back!
(4)Rose P.
Delicious flavors! I always call my order ahead , services is fast and taste is great. Rosy offers great customer service. This is my families #1 choice for tacos, we love the hand made tortillas.
(5)Francisco D.
I had the Pastor burrito and ordered it for takeout as well as a chicken quesadilla. The food itself was awesome. What tainted the experience was the lady took my order. I know everyone has bad days but she was rude to me and I even heard an employee ask her for help and she responded by saying "I'm nobody's maid" OUT LOUD. Not necessarily the vibe you want from the person greeting customers all day. Again what makes this place great is the important part, their FOOD!
(3)Taralynn B.
cash only at this location (the other location takes debit card) which is the only reason why i am giving them 4 stars. other than that, phenomenal food. taste is amazing and the salsa is to die for when paired with them. anything you get here will be delicious, guaranteed.
(4)Chris F.
Got tacos Because the tortillas were homemade and very good. The Al Pastore was excellent and the Asada and Carnitas were good. The salsa is just okay. Overall I was very satisfied. 3 1/2 stars If it were possible. Portions were good for the money
(4)Andres L.
Best Mexican food ever.. the tortillas for the tacos are hand made which is a big plus for me, also the burritos are really good , this place is my new Mexican restaurant I would recommend anyone to go here ... I rate a 5 start because of the food but the place is small , and also its cash only which sucks for many of us because everyone uses debit cards , I'll suggest to order food to take it home it gets hot in there...
(5)Louisiana E.
My all time favorite Mexican food, I've been visiting this spot for over 10 years and not once have I been disappointed. Their carne Asada meat is season so tastefully, and the torillas are hand made. Don't get me started on their green salsa, it's amazing. I'm so proud of this restuant and I will always recommends it the those looking for THE BEST BURRITO DE ASADA !!! Seriously I love this place try it, the one in Garfield is the best one.. There's about four of them
(5)Cindy B.
Anytime I hear "handmade tortilla tacos!" I'm there... Been coming to this Zavala's for years now and their touch has not changed, still delicious! Keep in mind, they have two other locations close by (one at least two blocks away from this place, and another one on Lakewood by Stewart & Gray), the other two are not the same even though it's own by the same guy, the tacos at this location (Zavala No 1) are better, that's my own opinion of course. My favorites are the carne asada tacos and the al pastor tacos. I've also had their carne asada burrito, mulita, and the huarache, all very tasty. Their prices are decent and their portions are good. Oh, the tacos are not the little ones so don't over order. Pros: Delicious food Handmade tortillas Reasonable prices Cons: The place is really small Most of the time it's always packed Limited seating CASH ONLY Limited parking Can get pretty loud
(5)Jennifer M.
AWESOME fish tacos! Love! Quintessential taqueria with no frills, but oh so delicious!
(5)Tony O.
Must try!! The tacos are delicious. Service was pretty quick. I like the fact the tortillas are made as you order. The Carne asada is really good.
(5)Michael G.
Huarache de carne asada was crisp and crunchy. Tasted very fresh. Tacos de al pastor were good (still looking for rotisserie style). They only accept cash so come prepared.
(4)Edward J.
It is a hole in the wall with little seating, but holy crap this food is good! The best tacos I've ever had. The tortillas were handmade, and the chicken was exquisite. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely be coming back. Does not accept cards, so please have cash.
(5)Mavy C.
This place is bomb.com . The staff/ waitresses are very nice and the food is delicious and cheap. I like the tortas, but ask for avocado slices instead of guacamole. The tripa is not great, but the lengua is the best I've ever had. I definitely recommend this place. Oh! I almost forgot, there's the main restaurant and the little to go place across the street.
(5)Evelyn L.
I would really like to know what all of the rave is about when it comes to this restaurant. My husband and I decided to have dinner here based on the terrific reviews it had. I ordered tacos 1 of Asada( beef) and the other of Cabeza (head), and I didn't eat either of them. The meat was very chewy and full of fat. I asked for guacamole, because I mean tacos with out guacamole? I got 4 pieces of a smashed I avocado. The service was bad also the lady that helped us seem to not want to be there a lot. Any questions we asked she would get bothered like she had better things to do. Needless to say we don't be coming back here again. I will stick to seafood during our stays in Los Angeles.
(1)Francisco B.
This place was fuckin bomb. I got two mulitas de suadero. The meat was soft and the cheese tasted like it was from Mexico. The salsa was alright, not as flavorful as I'd like but still good. I will try the other salsas next time. The staff was friendly. One bad thing is that they only take cash, but whatevers, still giving this place a 5/5.
(5)Diane B.
Very good food and good quick service. We had tacos, burritos and chiliquilas and we enjoyed all of them. Close to the LA County Animal Shelter so drop by and rescue a furry friend after you eat!!!
(5)Rocky G.
One of THEEEEE best Mexican spots I've been to in LA. That's saying A LOT!! The tortillas are HAND MADE & taste PHENOMENAL! Everything they have is BIG.. Tacos are inexpensive also, $1 something for the taco with A HEAPING handful of meat.. It's a lot of meat for a $1 taco... The best meat has to be their Al Pastor.. Their horachata is AMAZING as well.. Also, be SURE to try their homemade Flan.. It is SOOO good, they have plenty of different flavors well! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! $5 can get you an AMAZING HUGE burrito! Try it out!
(5)Benjamin G.
Been coming here for a while! Recommend the champurrado, enchilada picosa, and enchilada tejana. - Chips and salsa served at every table. - Tacos are served with a lazy Susan stoked with spices carrots, radish, pico de gallo, and lemons.
(5)Familia G.
Best zavalas! If you can take a drive to the original zavalas do it! Everything is delicious and the tortillas are hand made for your tacos , gringas and huaraches! Whatever you chose , you will love! Chose an agua fresco with it too!
(5)J G.
The menu from the downey Zavala's is different. I wish they had same menu I had ordered a gringa mex and they added onions to it. The other locations don't add onions so I had to send my order back, which I hate doing that. They take a little long! but over all its good place to eat at
(3)Steve Q.
Hand made tortillas. Good meats Good salsa bar Good fish tacos Big Tacos don't over order.
(5)Axa M.
The fish tacos are delicious, and so are the burritos. Because the food is great, sometimes there can be a wait, but if you go just before the lunch crowd, you are served very quickly. The staff is friendly and I can take my friends there because I can order the food spicy and they can have theirs not too spicy.
(5)Cynthia T.
I live down the block from this place so I pretty much eat there everyday. I love this place! The food is great! I've only tried the tacos de Asada, the huaraches and the mulitas and all three were awesome.
(5)Elyssia S.
So I meant to take a picture of my food but it looked absolutely delicious....idk what to say about the food but authentic. I had the mulita with pastor and horchata it wws THE BEST I'm going to be back very soon
(5)Sergio B.
Mmmmmmm!! I gotta say I was a little skeptical when I came but all the positive reviews kept me optimistic! I'm so glad I tried it... The torta Asada I ordered was awesome and so tasty! The Asada tacos were made with fresh homemade tortillas! It's so difficult to find good Mexican food joints in LA but this place definitely hits the "must come back " list! I totally recommend it!
(5)La Trim And Rugs Inc. L.
I've been coming here for years. Love it. Can't get enough. Best service ever. Order the Mac and cheese. It's to die for.
(5)Sketch67 ..
Are you a fan of tacos? Not just any tacos but big ass tacos with handmade tortillas where they don't skimp on the meat? Well lucky for you my friend you stumbled upon Taqueria Zavala No 1! The wife and I found this place on Yelp! 34 reviews with 4 1/2 stars then you know you found a good spot. But don't make the mistake we did. A few doors down there's a Mexican restaurant with the name Zavalas or something like that. We went there a couple of times and quickly realized that was not the 4 1/2 star spot we read about. Some google mapping later and we found out that this spot was a hole in the wall next to a liquor store. Since I was hungry as hell and a self proclaimed expert taco eater I decided to get myself 5 tacos not knowing anything about their size... even the cashier looked at me with an "are you sure?" look. To paint a better picture for those of you who don't know, each Zavala style taco is the equivalent of 2 regular tacos. I was up for the challenge! The overall taste of the handmade tortilla, the juicy meat, the cilantro and onions and their green sauce helped me get through all 5 without a problem. Now I have deemed Taqueria Zavala as my favorite taco spot and recommend it to anyone looking for a good taco. They've got everything from tortas, burritos, huaraches and more. Oh and it's cheap too so you can enjoy good eating on a balanced budget. Buen provecho!
(5)Sergio R.
Carne is good, tortillas are good. You get the best bang for ur buck in terms of quantity of meat on the tacos compared to most places and with reasonable prices, I going there
(5)Maria O.
Pretty satisfying tacos, they are HUGE, (well more like made with a regular sized tortilla), but it is hand-made. On my very first visit I opted to what they are very well known for TACOS! Taco de cabeza, doesn't it speak for itself on how good it is?! Yes, I did get sum fat along with the meat, but after removing it from the taco, look how much meat there is still left in the taco, yelp.com/biz_photos/YQAl… Taco de pescado, wow that was a spoonful of guacamole, yelp.com/biz_photos/YQAl… The aguas frescas were quite good, not too much sugar but actual flavor and refreshing. Love the fact that you help yourself to: lemons, salsa, radishes, and pickled carrots. The atmosphere was a bit intimidating at first, part was thanks to the cook that enjoys singing as he works, lol and the other was the feeling of being stared at by the two cooks in the kitchen but... I got over it as soon as I started eating lol (it's not their fault I'm shy). Heart breaking points: CASH ONLY!!! CHASH ONLY!!! Must know this before coming, luckily my date had cash, otherwise I would've ended up in the kitchen washing dishes =( It is a very small place only two small tables that can only seat 4ppl each, and honestly doesn't feel like the place you would want to stay and sit, since it does look a bit unorganized and crowded, but I guess all the regulars know this already so they pick up to go since they did have consistent traffic while I was here. I must come back and try their burrito, sopes, and huaraches... but must remind myself to bring cash.
(4)Michael S.
Love the food, but the service could be better. 1 lady in particular has a bad attitude every single time she serves me. Thats the only reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
(4)Brenda F.
Delicious! Love this little joint! The food is tasty, flavorful and satisfying. Had a torta de asada with a taco and a Jamaica drink. Bomb!!! Ate there and I felt like I was in Mexico. The salsa is not all that but the food is 5 stars in flavor!
(5)Ruben B.
One of the best authentic home made tacos in South Side LA.Try this hole in the wall and you'll surely enjoy it by far.
(5)Lily S.
As far as Mexican food I have to say it's pretty BOMB. The prices are very reasonable and the service can get a bit slow if they are busy. (Which can happen anywhere). The huarache is tasty and the liver and onions rock if you like it. The chile rellenos are tasty too. Roll up in any given day and you won't be disappointed Unless it's winter and they are out of champurrado.
(4)Johnny B.
Come here for the Handmade Carne Asada Masa huaraches. For $5 is really tough to beat especially for a masa made huarache. Its loaded with ingredients so you will get full and tastes great. 1 Star off for the annoying cook who sings and tries to be funny.
(4)April C.
Not too fond of this place, food is alright, but customer service is worse! I prefer going to the one on somerset across the street from hollywood sports. Food tastes better and the lady workers there have much more people skills...
(1)Oscar R.
Best place to go for tacos! Recommend ordering over the phone before you get there because it's usually always busy!

This is one is a good one. It was originally not listed as a Mexican Restaurant in Yelp. So it is an "Undiscovered Gem." I don't really know how I ended up being in South Gate and hungry enough to pull over and look for something to eat. But thanks to Yelp, I found it. I think that the tacos are comparable to the best tacos in Los Angeles and New York. I don't think they are the best.....but I do think they deserve to be considered. They are damn good. The pricing makes for great Cheap Eats. I'm taking some to my Parents for dinner. The meat is grilled and then chopped up and put back on the grill to heat it up for your order. Just like it is supposed to be. They power stuff the tacos Salsas, Beans & Rice are also really good. There is a little old lady making tortillas .........you should go.

Tried the asada and carnitas tacos. Delicious. No frills simple place so don't expect much other than the good food. Would definitely come back for more.

Shady. Good food. But prices vary dependent upon if the cashier thinks I'm white or a mexican.

TAQUERIA ZALVALA NO#1. Not to be mistaken for another restaurant with the name "Zavala Restaurant Y Taqueria" which is practically on the next street down that looks like a restaurant. Not sure if they are actually the same or not but haven't been to the other. This place is literally a "hole in the wall" joint because its freakin' TINY for a eating place. It has three aluminum tables that can't be space out at and only two options for salsas. Verde and the Red stuff. There's also radishes and picked onions and carrots and cilantro and onions mix as the options, all self-served right behind where you order which is about 3 feet away. No seriously. 3 feet. Moving on to the menu, they have a good selection of I guess you could say mexican street food? Tacos Burritos, Huarache, Tortas, Quesadillas and such and the meat selection wasn't that bad also. Coming from someone that doesn't know Mexican food too well but loves it, they had meats that I haven't a clue what they are. I just remember seeing Asada, Carnitas, Al Pastor, Lengua, and Cabeza, mm brains. Those were the only ones I could recognize as meats. So I tried the Carnitas, Asada, Lengua and Al Pastor Tacos. They don't have the price for regular tacos up or just couldn't seem to find them but they are currently at 1.35 a taco. And from what I remembered the first picture on the menu only featured a Taco De Pescado which is I assume Fish Taco and it had guacamole on it which priced for 2.25 I believed. The Tacos come bare, as in just meat and homemade fresh tortillas. But DAMN, THE AMOUNT OF MEAT THEY PUT IN.. is A LOT SHDGSG!. I've had those cheapy tacos at a bunch of other places and its always the same. Tiny palm sized tacos with barely and meat inside that seemingly seem to just not want to stay in the damn tiny tortilla. So, Taqueria Zalvala No 1. tacos. Homemade tortilla that's the size of my hand or even BIGGER. The filling is doubled even tripled the amount you get somewhere else for about the same price. Also my taco didn't once want to like fall apart despite all the cilantro and onions and salsa I put in them. And the taste? All delicious and unique. I've had places where the carnitas and al pastor were almost similar, not here, they are both done completely differently which I like. I had 2 and I was already feeling satisfied. And they oh man they were gooood. I'm already typing so damn much already so pretty much, its a place you should try, just don't be intimidated by the spot and area. It's worth the trip to try some real tacos. I gave them 4 stars because well, I plan to come back and try the rest of the menu. Go now!

Very good tacos and BIG too! Had the Asada tacos & an horchata, and I left very satisfied. There are other options too and I plan on returning to try the torta & fish tacos. The tacos come out plain and you put the cilantro, onions, & chile yourself - which I like, because every time I order tacos somewhere else and ask for the chile on the side - I get a nasty look from the person attending me. The cook today was also entertaining, w/his singing and all the pounding & cutting of the meat he probably worked at Benihana. Definitely will be back & recommend to others. The horchata was delicious too!

I can honestly say that I've had a lot of tacos - stands, trucks, sit-downs, etc. This place is hands down the best carne asada tacos I've ever had. The meat is perfectly grilled and spiced...juicy, tasty awesomeness. Amazing meat, plus freshly made tortillas. The grilled pepper that comes with the tacos is pretty damn spicey. As far as the food goes, it doesn't get much better - hence the 5 stars for the food. Here are the cons. It is a kind of ghetto looking place that I probably would not have gone to on my own initiative, unless I had heard of it first on yelp. There is very little seating. There are 3 tables in the restaurant. If you go during lunch time, it's barely standing room only. I ate out on the curb, but whatever. I'm going back again later this week.

This one of my top Burrito places!!!! The place is really small, hole in the wall, but the food is good. This place feels like if you were in Mexico eating at a taqueria place. I highly recommend this place. Trust me, everything you order is good. Burritos are about $7 but you will get great quality and quantity. The beans and carne asada are amazing. Good food, great food, good food!!! Horchata is so good too. You will leave so full and satisfied. I recommend carne asada burrito with cheese and guacamole added!!! It worth the extra $2... Trust me eat there.

Great hole-in-the-wall food in Paramount! This little joint serves tacos, mulitas, tortas, guaraches and more!!! Portions are big. My husband loves this place and it's a must when in Paramount. 105 and Garfield! Park on the street or on a crappy parking lot next door that's full of trailer trucks. Only about a bench or two so I recommend to call your order in for pick up. **CASH ONLY** (only thing that sucks about it)

Checked this place out for lunch due to the Yelp reviews.... the food was fab! It's a total hole in the wall but those are always the best. I had a wet carne asada burrito and it was huge and yummy. My friend had the carne asada torta and loved it. Two downfalls: no fountain drinks and cash only. However, that won't stop me from going back!
